Spotify Expands Music Video Access in North America

Spotify has officially launched its music video feature for Premium subscribers in the U.S. and Canada, following a successful beta phase in other markets, including the U.K. This move comes shortly after the company’s Wrapped 2025 campaign, demonstrating Spotify’s commitment to enhancing user engagement through visual content.

Music videos have long been recognized as a powerful tool for building artist fandom. Engaging with a video increases the likelihood that fans will explore more of an artist’s work. Spotify noted that once a listener interacts with a music video, they show a 34% greater chance of streaming that track again and a 24% higher likelihood of saving or sharing it in the following week. This effect is even more pronounced among super listeners, who reportedly stream the artist 85% more in the subsequent month.

Currently, the music video feature is in beta, meaning that it is not yet fully rolled out. Only a limited selection of videos is available, but Spotify has indicated plans to expand its catalog over time. The company highlighted a survey indicating that more than 70% of listeners feel that video content would enhance their Spotify experience.

For users in the beta program, accessing music videos is straightforward. Premium subscribers can find videos on Spotify’s TV, desktop, iOS, and Android apps. To watch a music video, users simply select a supported track and tap “Switch to video.” The video will begin playing from the point where the song left off, allowing for a seamless transition between audio and video. If you prefer to return to audio listening, you can easily switch back by pressing “Switch to audio.” For mobile users, rotating the device to landscape mode provides a full-screen viewing experience.

This introduction of music videos aligns with the broader trend in the music industry, where video content is becoming increasingly essential for artist promotion and fan engagement. As platforms evolve, the integration of visuals into music streaming services is likely to play a significant role in shaping how listeners interact with their favorite artists. As the industry continues to adapt, the importance of visual content in the music industry will only grow.
